Vins du Monde5th.November.2007 Spot the Pinotage - Grangehurst![]() The July 2007 edition of Wineland / Wynland included an article headed "Spot the Pinotage" - interesting stuff. An overview of the article follows below: Tired of the constant sniping at Pinotge on the UK Wine Forum (www.wine-pages.com/forum) from those who say they dislike the variety, Keith Prothero bet all-comers that they could not detect a Pinotage when tasted blind with other wines. Grangehurst Pinotage vs. Château Mouton-Rothschild, Clos Vougeot, Ornellaia, Jaboulet Hermitage & Others. A crazy comparison - but I was quite amused to read about this "Spot the Pinotage" tasting that was held recently in the UK. The bets were on (£200 prize) for any tasters who could spot the Pinotage in a line-up of 12 international wines that included classics such as Château Mouton-Rothschild, Clos Vougeot, Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle and Ornellaia. Apparently the task at hand - to pick out the lone Pinotage (Grangehurst 2000) - "proved harder than they thought". Only two of the ten tasters correctly identified the Pinotage. One wine-lover thought Grangehurst 2000 Pinotage was Mouton-Rothschild while another picked it as the Wine of the Night - and commented "maybe a very good Hermitage?". (Click on www.pinotageclub.blogspot.com/search?q=Pebbles+Projects if you would like to read the article). Hopefully this will encourage the anti-Pinotage contingent of wine drinkers to have a more open-minded approach to Pinotage! Menu
